Dr Alison Crossley is a senior research fellow in Oxford University, Department of Materials. Alison gained her first degree in Chemistry at Liverpool University and subsequently a Ph.D. in surface science under the supervision of Professor Sir David King. Alison then worked at Harwell for many years, first for the Atomic Energy Research Establishment and subsequently for AEA Technology.

At Harwell Alison held various posts relating to surface science and analysis ending up as manager of a commercial Materials Characterisation Service. Moving to Oxford in 2000, Alison established and managed Oxford Materials Characterisation Services at the Oxford University Begbroke Science Park, providing expertise to industry and other research groups.

Alison is a recognised expert in the characterisation of surfaces with over 100 peer reviewed papers. Alison’s research interests are wide and varied but all apply the common theme of using characterisation as a tool to understand how materials interact with their environment. She is an active member of the Institute of Physics and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry
