Hearing and Audiology – Hannah Gray

Hearing is often a sense which we take for granted until something starts going wrong. For a person born with hearing, it is essential for everyday life. Most of our relationships, both personal and professional, rely in some way on our ability to hear. When I tell someone I work as an audiologist, I often get asked “a what?” (often with no pun intended)! A lot of people haven’t heard of “audiologists” but we play a huge role in assessing people’s hearing, providing assistance for those with hearing challenges, giving advice about hearing protection, helping people to manage tinnitus and in some cases helping with balance problems as well. In this talk I will guide you through how our auditory systems work, what can sometimes go wrong with them and how these issues can be managed. I’ll touch on hearing, tinnitus and balance to give you an insight into the world of Audiology.

Hannah Gray is an audiologist at Tripp Hearing in Oxfordshire. She studied Audiology at Southampton University and has worked in both the NHS and the private sector. She specialises in providing hearing care and auditory rehabilitation for adults; providing advice about hearing protection; performing aural care and wax removal services and giving advice about tinnitus management. She also enjoys playing music in a folk and ceilidh band. As you might imagine, her fellow band mates have the best in musician’s hearing protection!
