King Charles III Makes Flying Visit to Didcot School

On 14th November 2023, Aureus School in Didcot received King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla who graced the school grounds with a spectacular helicopter landing.

The event, organised in collaboration with Thames Valley Police and the King’s flight aviation coordinator, provided an extraordinary educational opportunity for the students.

Thrilled students – some holding signs wishing the monarch a happy 75th birthday – gathered on the school grounds to witness the royal helicopter gracefully touch down just after 12noon.

Following the landing, which saw the King and Queen smile and wave to students before heading off by car to carry out Royal duties around Oxfordshire, students were invited to approach the aircraft, marvel at its intricate design, and engage with the skilled aviation team present on-site.

Kirsty Rogers, Headteacher at Aureus School said “It was wonderful to see how spirited the students were and a fantastic opportunity for our students to see the King and Queen up close.

“We were delighted that King Charles III took the time to wave to the students before departing for his charity work with SOFEA, an organisation who we have close affiliation with.”

The whole school came out to catch a glimpse of King Charles III. Year 10 student Christy said: “It was nice of King Charles III to wave at us, probably one of my best experiences at school.”

Sanjeev, Year 9 student, added: “It was an amazing experience to see the King of England and everyone was having so much fun.”
