Thames Catchment Community Eels Project
Anna Forbes will be giving a virtual presentation on this multi-faceted partnership project. TCCEP was a pilot project working to improve the future of the European eel, which since 2008 has been listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. Work included developing and trialling a new methodology for mapping and assessing barriers to eel migration, suitable for use as a Citizen Science. The Eel’s life cycle is complex, involving both freshwater and marine stages. Much of the eel’s life is still a mystery to scientists, however what we do know is truly fascinating. After the presentation questions are very welcome.
Anna Forbes was Project Manager for The Thames Catchment Community Eels Project for Thames Rivers Trust (TRT), a registered environmental charity and Rivers Trust dedicated to improving the River Thames and its tributaries for the benefit of people, biodiversity and the environment.
She has a background leading river restoration and conservation projects, citizen science training and co-ordination, river education and community engagement.
She is an accredited Riverfly Partnership Trainer and Tutor and recently trained to be an Extended Riverfly Tutor. She oversees one of the countries most successful Riverfly Hubs.
Anna grew up in Marlborough, Wiltshire with a love for the outdoors and nature. Playing in the River Kennet developed her passion for rivers, especially chalk streams and the wildlife that lives in and by them.
In her spare time Anna can usually still be found in a river!
