June 2026, Didcot Cafe Scientifique, Jane Sellwood – Water, how we use it and abuse it

June 16 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Didcot Cafe Scientifique, Tuesday 16th June, 7.30pm – 9pm, Cornerstone Arts Centre

Water – How we use it and abuse it

The talk will cover wastewater treatment, drinking water treatment and the current national and global water issues and impact of the climate crisis.

Water, whether too much or too little around the globe is at the forefront of how the changing climate is affecting communities.

How we use this precious resource is also impacted by the effects of weather to the extent of risking significant harm to our infrastructure systems.

Dr Jane Sellwood is a retired Clinical Scientist, previously employed by the Health Protection Agency (now called UK Health Security Agency) and was based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. She was consultant Clinical Virologist for the diagnostic virology laboratory and also led research in the national Water Virology Unit. During the last few years she has taken a renewed interest in viral respiratory diseases and river water quality
