From Wednesday 2nd September, a new ‘school street’ trial is commencting for Willowcroft Primary School and St. Birinus Boys School.
It will impact on the roads around the two schools and will operate only in term time, on school days between 8:00am to 9:00am and 2:30 to 3:30pm.
The scheme will encompass Abbott Rd, The Croft, Glebe Rd, Lynmouth Rd, Mereland Rd between Abbott and Kynaston Rd junctions, Richmere and Ridgeway Roads, Sinodun Rd, Laburnam Grove, Abbott Close and Bridge Close.
The concept of the trial is to reduce school run traffic congestion, creating a safer environment where people can walk, wheel, cycle or scoot with less risk from moving traffic, better air quality and reducing the impacts of school run parking.
Traffic will be restricted from entering the designated roads at the specific times above and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will enforce this. Fines will be issues to non-permit traffic entering the restricted zone.
Many residents have expressed their concern about the trial including moving the current traffic congestion to roads outside the zone. Also how it may impact on deliveries or service vehicles visiting homes during these restricted hours.
There will be a drop off/pick up up area at The Didcot Wave for parents transporting their children to/from school.
